3. Oxford between Dekalb and Lafayette

I liked to walk down this street between classes, especially when I had first moved to Brooklyn. The street is lined with regal-looking brownstones and shady trees, and it exemplified how I imagined the city to look like before I had ever visited. There are plenty of streets in Fort Greene that look just like this one, but for some reason, this was my favorite.

2. Willow between Cranberry and Pineapple

I haven’t walked this street too many times, but I have very vivid memories of the few times I did. I suppose Brooklyn Heights is rife with scenic, walkable streets. My favorite walk was when I went to pick up a giant couch I had seen on Craigslist, and I was talking to my future best friend about how much I liked walking. I think I like people better if I know that they like to walk just to look around too.

1. Guernsey between Calyer and Nassau

In Kate Christensen’s novel, The Astral, the narrator describes Guernsey as “a sordid narrow canyon that [runs] for several blocks between two facing sheer high walls of claustrophobia-inducing attached apartment buildings.” During the day this may be true, but at night this street is quite pretty. The tall buildings feel like a fortress. There’s also a run-down mansion at the end of the cul-de-sac where I’m going to live eventually.
