4. Erb Thai // 681 Manhattan Avenue
If you bring your significant other here, chances are you are about to have a big argument. It’s ill-lit, greasy, and squarely between two subway stops: the type of place you go to after a long day. What better place to fight? I’ve argued here before, and I highly recommend it for tension-filled whisper fights. Wear something dark and brooding that will allow you easily slip off into the night.
3. Amarin Cafe // 617 Manhattan Avenue
The fanciest Greenpoint has to offer in Thai, this place has slightly dressier standards. Many people wander in here on their way to Williamsburg, so wear something studded or culturally insensitive. Despite its vogue tendencies, it’s also the best Thai in the neighborhood. Come for the food, and stay for the slightly troubling wall paintings. (Also, it’s BYOB.)
2. Thai Cafe // 925 Manhattan Avenue
Don’t strain yourself. The weakest member of the big four, Thai Cafe is the place you go to if every other Thai place in the vicinity is closed or too far to walk to. Also, no one actually eats here; they always order delivery or pick-up. So feel free to slouch by in your Boise State hoodie and toe socks. The woman at the counter has probably seen much worse.
1. Ott Thai // 970 Manhattan Avenue
People very rarely eat here either, but it could possibly give Amarin Cafe a run for its money. This is mostly for pick-ups and deliveries as well, but you should still put in some effort when stopping by. This place has vintage cameras on display and tasteful lighting. Put on pants, but not sweat pants. You don’t have to wear make up, but you could wash your face. After all, this isn’t Thai Cafe.
